Based in Des Moines, Iowa, Intoxalock® recently got the okay to begin installing its brand of alcohol monitoring devices right here in the state of Florida. Intoxalock already has a well-established network of more than 50 authorized installation locations throughout the Sunshine State and also has locations in all of the state’s 20 districts. Intoxalock can now install ignition interlock devices right here in South Florida including in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Hopefully you’ll never require having an ignition interlocking device in your vehicle, but you should still familiarize yourself with and be aware of the law. Someone who commits a DUI offense for the first time in Florida will be required to complete a DUI School program prior to applying for a hardship license. Should the court require it, the first time offender may have to receive treatment and possibly have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle.
Second time DUI offenders are required to apply for their hardship license one year from the date their license is revoked. Besides completing DUI School and receiving treatment should it be necessary, a second time offender must have an ignition interlock device installed on every vehicle that they own or have driven for at least a year.
With an ignition interlock device, drivers must blow into the device before the vehicle will be allowed to start the vehicle to measure their blood alcohol content level.
