Heads Up: Miami Marathon’s Weekend Road Closures

marathonIn case you weren’t aware, the annual Miami Marathon is returning this Sunday, January 28, bringing hundreds of thousands of runners to the Magic City and beyond. For Miami drivers heading to work or elsewhere, it’s a good idea to take proactive measures and be aware of the various road closures.

For starters, Miami Beach officials are recommending that anyone who will be entering or exiting the barrier island between 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM should use the Julia Tuttle Causeway instead of the MacArthur Causeway. The marathon kicks off bright and early at 6:00 AM in Miami’s American Airlines Arena and runners will be traveling towards Miami Beach through the MacArthur Causeway followed by Ocean Drive, the Venetian Causeway, and even south to the neighborhood of Coconut Grove.

The Miami Marathon will be over by 2:00 PM, though there is a procedure in place to ensure the roads reopen once they’re clear of runners. It’s worth noting, however, that northbound Biscayne Boulevard will also be closed from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Southeast 3rd Street to Northeast 2nd Street on Saturday.
