Florida Court Upholds License Plate Frame Law

vehicleplatePreviously we mentioned how numerous Floridians may be unintentionally breaking the law by giving their vehicle license plate a little bit of personality. Unbeknownst to many, covering or obscuring the lettering of a license plate with a frame depicting something as a beloved sports team or the name of the dealership where the vehicle was purchased could result in facing charges.

If there was any doubt regarding the law, an appeals court recently confirmed that indeed, a Florida driver may face charges for obscuring their plate including the myflorida.com name, the line at the bottom, and the sticker showing registration. Drivers are required to maintain a clear, clean, and fully visible license plate on their vehicle.

The case involved a driver who was stopped by a law enforcement officer because the frame was obscuring the myflorida.com words at the top of the license plate. The driver was also charged with a narcotics offense after the officer allegedly found drugs in the vehicle.
