Car Accidents See Substantial Increases

carAccidentsIn some alarming albeit perhaps not entirely surprising news, fatal car accidents are on the rise here in Florida as well as around the country. In fact, the number of fatalities in the state has increased more than the national average.

Per data from the National Safety Council (NSC), accidents during the beginning of the year increased by over eight percent compared to 2015. From the first of January to June 30th, there were about 19,000+ road fatalities in the country, a significant increase from 17,500+ during the first half of 2015. Accident fatality rates are increasing faster in certain states than others, with Florida increasing by more than forty percent.

While the reasons for the substantial rise in car fatalities has yet to be fully determined, there are several potential reasons, and one of them may be the greater presence of drivers on the roadways. With gas prices and unemployment remaining low, there are more people on the road driving for business or travel purposes. Of course, we also can’t forget about distracted driving, which remains a major cause of vehicle collisions.

Remember to always use safe driving practices. Wear your seatbelt, don’t drive when you’re tired, have a designated driver, and try to refrain from using your mobile phone.
