Are Uber and Lyft Cutting Down on DUI Arrests?

uberWhile the transportation costs are nice, these companies may also be playing a role in contributing to a decrease in the number of drunk drivers.

Per the Miami Herald, its police department reported a drop of just over thirty percent in the number of arrests due to DUI during the last four years. What’s more, the Miami-Dade police department stated that DUI arrests had plummeted by more than sixty percent during the same period. Miami-Dade police also noted that between 2013 to 2015, more than 1,500 individuals were arrested for DUI. Last year, that number dropped to just 594.

Whether ridesharing companies are indeed the root cause of a drop in DUI remains up for debate, but they may be helping. Millennials especially prefer to rely on Uber and Lyft to get them around the city, especially if it involves a night where drinking is involved.

Regardless of how you may feel about them, Uber and Lyft may be saving lives in South Florida. To read more about this, please visit https://www.autoblog.com/2018/09/18/heres-how-much-ride-sharing-is-keeping-drunk-drivers-off-the-ro/.
