Uber Ups Its Background Checks

uberFrequent Uber users concerned about the history of the person driving them to their destination will find some additional relief in knowing that the ride-sharing company recently announced plans to ramp up its background check efforts. Drivers will now receive annual criminal background checks and the company has also enlisted the help of another company that will consistently monitor any criminal arrests, according to a Miami Herald article.

Uber’s new initiatives are part of a plan implemented by its new CEO and are aimed at not only improving the company’s image after a series of mishaps but also making the service “fundamentally safer” for drivers and their passengers.

Besides the background checks, Uber also plans to implement a 911 button directly into the app to make it easier for riders to call in an emergency as well as improved methods of allowing riders to share their current whereabouts with their loved ones and friends.
