Florida Halts SunPass Late Fees

floRidaWhile precautions were taken to ensure Florida’s upgrade of the SunPass system went smoothly, it was not without its hiccups. Many drivers found themselves facing penalties and possible late fees after issues arose in regards to the billing system. Earlier this month, the website, hotlines, and mobile app all succumbed to an unexpectedly high demand after users were eager to manage their accounts after the overhaul, which took about a week to complete.

Due at least partially to these issues, drivers may have accumulated toll charges. Florida drivers will be happy to know that late fees will not be applied until the SunPass system has been tested extensively, which should provide a degree of relief.

To get an idea of how extensive the SunPass upgrade was, let’s briefly explore some of the upgrades that went on behind the scenes. These include improvements to invoices, payments for traffic tickets, making account changes, purchasing and activating transponders, and much more. Additionally, a trio of walk-in centers were opened including a new location in Doral.
